On April 18, 2020, IRCC clarified the impacts of the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) on the eligibility of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to submit applications for Parents and Grandparents and Spousal sponsorship. Due to the emergency situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, IRCC will not consider CERB as social assistance. Moreover, potential sponsors who receive Employment Insurance (EI) during the quarantine will also keep their eligibility to sponsor.
