Quebec’s Minister of Immigration Kathleen Weil has announced a new promotional campaign to encourage immigrant enrollment in French-language courses. This initiative will focus on promoting courses through social media and community websites as well as in newspapers, on the radio and on public transport.
While proof of French language knowledge is not always required for candidates applying for a Quebec Selection Certificate through the Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP), it is an important factor in the program’s eligibility criteria. Over the recent years Quebec has been welcoming more immigrants with existing knowledge of French prior to arrival, and this accounts in part for the decrease in enrolment of immigrants in government-sponsored French classes.
The first stage of the promotional campaign is expected to roll out by August 30.
