Manitoba invited 278 candidates in draw #155
On September 8, 2022, Manitoba held a new invitation round in the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). In round #155, MPNP issued 217 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAA) in the Skilled Workers in Manitoba stream. The minimum score to get the LAA in this category was 616 points, 3 points fewer compared to the previous draw. In the Skilled Workers Overseas stream, Manitoba issued 20 LAAs. The lowest score in the SWO category was 703 points, 5 points fewer than in the previous round. In addition, Manitoba invited 41 candidates in the International Education Category. In total, Manitoba issued LAAs to 278 candidates, including 76 Express Entry candidates. MPNP has invited 4,797 candidates in 2022, and 945 of them received invitations in the Express Entry.

Distance learning students are now eligible for Canadian education credential points
On September 8, 2022, the Government of Canada introduced a new COVID-19 program delivery update regarding Canadian education credentials for Express Entry applicants. According to the update, as of July 26, 2022, Express Entry applicants who have claimed points for Canadian education credentials and completed any part of their program of study or training between March 1, 2020, and August 31, 2022, are eligible for Canadian education credential points even if they completed the program entirely through distance learning from outside of Canada through part-time studies.

Ottawa introduced instructions on medical assessment coding
On September 8, 2022, the Government of Canada updated the medical assessment coding, which now reflects medical profile and assessment and surveillance codes. Medical assessment coding provides a standard way to report medical information. The code is used to track patient progress and to understand how different diseases or conditions progress over time. The new coding will help ensure that medical examinations are conducted in a consistent manner and provide better data to support policy decisions. The change will also make it easier for people to understand their medical assessment results.

Visa delays put Canada’s competitiveness at risk
Navigating the visa application process has become increasingly difficult for Canadian educators, foreign students, and partners alike. Canadian immigration officials are increasing staff and working to reduce processing times. However, the significant backlog has caused some students to delay their program start dates this year. In a related matter, the Canadian government has extended its COVID-era policy that permits students to complete up to 100 percent of their studies online and still obtain a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP). According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, this policy will remain unchanged until August 31, 2023. Consequently, students studying online or who have submitted a study permit application before that date will still be eligible for a PGWP.

Saskatchewan held new draws one day after the previous rounds
On September 7, 2022, the next day after the previous big invitation rounds, Saskatchewan held new draws in the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). In the Express Entry category, Saskatchewan issued 521 ITAs. Another 422 invitations were issued to the Occupations In-Demand category candidates. The lowest score in both categories was 70 points, 10 points more than yesterday. All invited candidates had Educational Credential Assessments. In this draw, Saskatchewan invited candidates under 28 different NOCs. Saskatchewan issued ITAs to 8,238 candidates in 2022.
