OINP invited 1,340 skilled trades candidates
On September 29, 2022, Ontario invited 1,340 candidates under the Skilled Trades Stream of the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP). The minimum CRS score of the invited candidates was 266. All invitees have their profiles created in the Express Entry system between September 29, 2021, to September 29, 2022. Candidates, who received a notification of interest on September 7, 2022 do not need to contact the program and can apply to the stream. This year, Ontario invited 7,506 candidates in eight draws under the Skilled Trades Stream. The OINP already invited 19,383 candidates under all streams of OINP in 2022.

New Brunswick extended navigation services for internationally trained healthcare workers
On September 27, 2022, the Government of New Brunswick announced that the province’s Department of Health extended navigation services that help match internationally trained nurses with employers. The project, which delivered services for internationally educated nurses, has been expanded to include all other regulated health professions. Nurses and healthcare providers who have already begun the application process do not need to resubmit their applications and should continue to work with their present contact. Since 2019 the province succeeded to match 200 nurses to employers.

Canada accepted nearly 1,000 new Afghan refugees
On September 29, 2022, the Government of Canada made a new update regarding the Afghan refugees arriving in the country. According to the last update, Canada has accepted 956 more Afghan refugees since September 16, 2022. As of now, Canada has welcomed a total of 20,351 Afghan refugees. The Government of Canada aimed to bring at least 40,000 Afghan nationals to Canada through special programs for Afghan refugees, as well as via the special immigration program for Afghan nationals who assisted Canadian forces in Afghanistan.

Canada welcomes a record number of parents and grandparents
Many families are being reunited in Canada through the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), and this number will likely exceed the target set for 2022-2024. Under the immigration plan, Ottawa had aimed to bring in 25,000 parents and grandparents this year under the PGP and then raise the target to 28,500 new permanent residents next year. According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) statistics, for the first seven months of 2022, Canada is expected to welcome 29,091 new permanent residents under the PGP.
