Saskatchewan launches new immigration streams to boost agriculture and healthcare workforce
On August 30, 2024, the Government of Saskatchewan unveiled two new talent pathways under the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) to address workforce shortages in agriculture and healthcare. As labour shortages challenge businesses nationwide, these new provincial immigration pathways will help Saskatchewan employers access the skilled workers necessary for growth. The Agriculture Talent Pathway will empower producers to recruit the expertise needed to sustain food production, enhance export value, and leverage innovations in agriculture. This initiative is designed to meet the rising demand for skilled labour in established and emerging industry roles. Meanwhile, the Health Talent Pathway aligns with the Government of Saskatchewan’s Health Human Resources (HHR) action plan, streamlining healthcare recruitment through a unified approach within the SINP.

Closure of the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot Program
The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) Program has officially closed. July 31 was the deadline for communities to recommend applicants to IRCC, and August 31 marked the final date for recommended applicants to submit their permanent residency applications. Launched to promote settlement in remote areas of Canada, the RNIP allowed each region to invite up to 125 applicants annually, totalling a program capacity of 2,750. As the RNIP concludes, a new initiative, the Rural Community Immigration Pilot Program, is set to debut this fall. Like the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), this program aims to stimulate economic development in remote regions. It will provide additional support to designated employers, offering enhanced assistance to employees compared to other provincial pathways. While the specific communities and eligibility criteria are yet to be announced by IRCC, the program is designed to address the ongoing demand for skilled workers in rural Canada.
