Canada updated eligibility requirements for the spousal open work permit
On September 27, 2021, the Government of Canada introduced new updates for the spousal open work permit. The sections on spouses or common-law partners of skilled workers and international students have been updated, and reflect new requirements by the Immigration Minister, Marco Mendicino. Now, the spousal open work permit is applicable only for spouses of study permit holders who are eligible for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP). In addition, the application should include only one principal foreign national and provide a genuine relationship document.

Saskatchewan invited 391 candidates through the SINP
On September 27, 2021, Saskatchewan conducted a new round of invitations in the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). SINP issued 391 invitations to apply (ITAs) for the provincial nomination. In the Express Entry category, Saskatchewan issued 152 ITAs. Another 239 invitations were issued to the Occupations In-Demand category candidates. The lowest score in both categories was 71 points, 5 points more than in the previous draw. All invited candidates had Educational Credential Assessments. In this draw, Saskatchewan invited candidates in 61 different NOCs. In total, Saskatchewan invited 6,235 candidates in 2021, including 2,733 in the Express Entry category and 3,433 in the Occupations In-Demand category.

Manitoba invited 650 candidates in draw #126
On September 23, 2021, Manitoba held a new invitation round in the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). In round #126, MPNP issued 529 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAA) in the Skilled Workers in Manitoba stream. The minimum score to get the LAA in this category was 401 points, 44 points lower compared to the previous draw. In the Skilled Workers Overseas stream, Manitoba issued 67 LAAs. The lowest score in the SWO category was 718 points, 20 points more than in the previous round. In addition, Manitoba invited 54 candidates in the International Education Category. In total, Manitoba issued LAAs to 650 candidates, including 135 Express Entry candidates. MPNP has invited 8,041 candidates in 2021, and 3,542 of them received invitations in the Express Entry.

Saskatchewan keeps accepting international graduates under the SINP
On September 27, 2021, Saskatchewan updated the number of spots remaining through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) for international graduates in the framework of the temporary immigration policy. The provincial government has allocated 1,000 spots for direct submission of a nomination application for those who resided in the province on September 1, 2020, and has completed an academic program in the province. Since the last week, the province has accepted 22 applications, and 469 spots remain available. SINP updates this data every Monday. Since the launch of the program, SINP has accepted 531 applications from international graduates.

Canada extended the travel ban for Morocco
In response to the growing number of COVID-19 cases, the Government of Canada restricted all direct flights from Morocco from August 29, 2021. On September 24, 2021, the Government extended the travel ban for another month – until October 29, 2021. Passengers, travelling from Morocco to Canada via a third country, must demonstrate a pre-departure negative COVID-19 molecular test result from their point of departure before they travel to Canada. Those who had tested positive for COVID-19 before will have to provide proof of a positive COVID-19 molecular test, instead of a negative COVID-19 molecular test.
