Ottawa extended the pilot program for a spouse or common-law partners in Canada class

On September 17, 2021, the Government of Canada extended the pilot program that exempts permanent residence applicants in the family class or the spouse or common-law partner in Canada (SCLPC) class. The program had to expire on September 9, 2021, however, now, was extended until September 9, 2023. The results of an analysis of the pilot, as well as the impact of COVID-19 on the processing of applications, made the Government implement the subsequent public policy by extending the pilot.

New immigrants choose Canada’s small cities instead of metropolises

Despite major Canadian metropolises have been popular destinations for immigrants for a long time, small and medium Canadian cities are now beginning to attract more overseas newcomers as the pressure of living in big cities increases. A study conducted between 2013 and 2019 by David Campbell at Ryerson University showed that the number of immigrants who settled in smaller cities increased by 45%, while only 9% settled in the four largest cities in Canada. Smaller cities, especially cities in the four Atlantic provinces, are slowly gaining popularity as destinations for immigration.
