IRCC held a PNP-targeted Express Entry draw #203
On September 1, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 635 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in the new PNP-targeted draw. In round #203, the cut-off score was 764 points, 13 points more compared to the previous PNP draw. The tie-breaking rule for this round was April 12, 2021 at 12:21:45 UTC. As of August 30, 2021, there are 172,131 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool, 1,295 more compared to the previous update. In total, in 2021, Canada issued 106,404 ITAs through Express Entry.

Liberal Party’s election platform and improvements in the Canadian immigration system
On September 1, 2021, the Liberal Party released a new election platform that addresses long-standing policy problems in the country as well as discusses future improvements in the immigration system. The Party promised to expand pathways to Permanent Residence for temporary foreign workers and former international students; create the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot and welcome 2,000 skilled refugees to fill labour shortages in demanded sectors such as health care; expand the new immigration stream for human rights defenders; increase the demographic weight of Francophones in the country and support Francophone immigration outside of Quebec, and introduce electronic applications for family reunification. Liberals also promise to make the Citizenship application process free for permanent residents who have fulfilled the requirements needed to obtain it. To note, the Party still has not waived the $630 citizenship fee, promised during the 2019 elections.

Quebec stopped accepting applications under the Special Program for Asylum Seekers
August 31, 2021, was the last day for receipt of applications under the Special Program for Asylum Seekers during the COVID-19 Period. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) had granted permanent residence (PR) under the Temporary Public Policy to certain foreign nationals selected by Quebec working in the healthcare sector during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since on April 31, 2021, the period for receipt of applications ended, IRCC extended the deadline until the end of August 2021, to let more candidates submit an application for PR.

Quebec invited 585 candidates in the 21st round of Arrima in 2021
On September 1, 2021, the Quebec Ministry of Immigration (MIFI) published the results of the 21st invitation round in Quebec’s online system Arrima conducted in 2021. MIFI invited 585 candidates to apply for a Quebec Selection Certificate under the Quebec Skilled Worker Program. Candidates, invited in this round, can submit an application for permanent selection in order to obtain a Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ) within a period of 6 months. In total, Quebec invited 2,147 persons through the Arrima in 2021. Since the launch of Arrima in July 2019, the government of Quebec invited 4,837 foreign nationals in 21 draws to apply for immigration to Quebec.

Alberta held two PNP draws in one week
On September 1, 2021, Alberta posted a new update about the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) inventory. On August 23, 2021, the province invited 450 candidates to apply for a nomination of the province. The lowest score to get a Notification of Interest (NOI) in this round was 300 points. In addition, on August 30, 2021, the province invited 400 candidates with a minimum score of 301. As of August 31, 2021, Alberta received 1,000 applications in the Alberta Opportunity Stream and 200 Expressions of Interest (EOI) in the Alberta Express Entry Stream. These applications are waiting for the eligibility assessment. In 2021, AINP already invited 4,007 Express Entry candidates in the Alberta Express Entry. The quota for AINP in 2021 will be announced later.
