Saskatchewan invited 621 candidates in the SINP
On September 15, 2020, Saskatchewan held a new round of invitations in the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). In the Express Entry category, SINP issued 455 invitations to apply. In the Occupations In-Demand category, Saskatchewan invited 166 candidates. The lowest score in both categories was 68 points, similar to the previous round. All invited candidates had Educational Credential Assessments. In this draw, Saskatchewan invited candidates in 3 following NOCs: 2173 Software engineers and designers, 2174 Computer programmers and interactive media developers, and 2175 Web designers and developers. Additionally, SINP noted that candidates who scored 68 points in this round had connections to Saskatchewan or had 10 years of work experience and a language level of CLB 8 or higher. In total, Saskatchewan invited 4,562 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in 2020.

Thunder Bay held a new invitation round
On September 15, 2020, Thunder Bay, ON, conducted a new invitation round in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) and issued community recommendations to three applicants. The community approved applications of 1 candidate in the NOC B skills level, 1 candidate in the NOC C, and 1 candidate in the NOC D. Those candidates now can apply for permanent residence in Canada to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). After approval in-principle of their PR applications, they can also apply for a work permit. Thunder Bay can still recommend 9 NOC A candidates, 16 NOC B candidates, 32 NOC C candidates, and 8 NOC D candidates. In total, the community issued recommendations to 35 candidates and still has 65 spots available.

The border with the United States to remain closed for one more month
According to a report by CBC, the governments of the United States and Canada will keep the border closed to non-essential travels for one more months. The travel restrictions will be extended until at least October 21, 2020. With the cold months ahead, chances for an increase of infected are very likely, therefore the border closure may last even longer. At the same time, Ottawa has not yet officially announced the extension of restrictive measures. The official notice may be released by the end of the week.

Alberta is the most ideal Canadian province in helping refugees resettle in Canada
During his provincial election campaign in 2019, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney promised that his government would strive to attract immigrants to reside in rural areas of the province. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada conducted an internal assessment of each province’s settlement environment for new immigrants. Based on the assessment, IRCC believes that Alberta is the most ideal Canadian province in receiving Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs) because the number of GARs resettled in Alberta is higher than the national average of all Canadian provinces. Furthermore, the median employment income of GARs in Alberta is the highest in all Canadian provinces.
