Ottawa introduced a new refugee claim portal

On September 13, 2022, the Government of Canada introduced a new online asylum application portal. The new portal will replace the Canadian Refugee Protection Portal and become the main way for asylum seekers to make a refugee claim in Canada. This secure platform allows officers to communicate directly with clients or their legal representatives and gives claimants the ability to track the status of their applications. Applicants who began a claim in the Canadian Refugee Protection Portal before September 12, 2022, but have not submitted it yet will be able to submit their applications until December 31, 2022. Those who require accommodations can still make a paper claim, as each request for accommodation will be reviewed individually.
