IRCC invited new candidates under the all-program Express Entry draw
On August 31, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 2,750 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates under Express Entry. In this round of invitations, no program has been specified. In round #230, the cut-off score was 516 points, 9 points fewer compared to the previous draw. The tie-breaking rule for this round was April 16, 2022, at 18:24:41 UTC. As of August 2, 2022, there are 239,196 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool, 252 more compared to the previous update. In 2022, Canada issued 21,038 ITAs through Express Entry.

British Columbia invited up to 259 candidates under various streams of the BCPNP
On August 30, 2022, British Columbia held new invitation rounds under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP). In the BC PNP Tech, the province invited 207 candidates. The lowest score of the round was 95 points. In the Childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 4214), the province invited 29 candidates. In the Healthcare-targeted draw, BC invited 13 candidates. Additionally, BC invited 5 Healthcare assistants (NOC 3413) and less than 5 candidates under other targeted occupations (NOC 3114, 3213). The lowest score in those draws was 60 points. In total, the province invited about 259 candidates. So far, British Columbia has already issued about 6,167 ITAs.

Iranian-Canadians feel like second-class citizens while travelling to the US
Many Iranian-Canadians announced that they feel like “second class” citizens while travelling to the US as they are getting stopped and undergoing additional screenings at the US-Canada border. The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) stopped Iranian-Canadians who had to undergo mandatory military training in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Iranian travellers say that since all men in Iran above the age of 18 have to do mandatory service with one of the arms of the military, they had no choice other than to serve. Iranian-Canadians who had been stopped and detained while crossing the US border state that it is unfair that their names are being flagged as people who have helped a terrorist organization.

BCPNP invited up to 10 candidates under the Entrepreneur Streams
On August 30, 2022, British Columbia held new draws for business candidates in the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). In the Base Category of the Entrepreneur Stream, BC PNP invited 6 candidates. The lowest score of this round was 116 points, 5 points more compared to the previous draw. In addition, the province invited less than 5 candidates in the Entrepreneur Immigration – Regional Pilot category with a minimum score of 129. The maximum points in the Entrepreneur Stream grid are 200. 120 points candidates can get for self-declared factors such as Experience & Ownership, Net Worth, Investment, etc. Another 80 points are given for the business concept. This year, the province invited up to 39 entrepreneurs under the BCPNP.
