British Columbia invited up to 191 candidates under the BCPNP

On October 4, 2023, the Government of British Columbia held new invitation draws under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) and invited qualified Skills Immigration candidates. In the general draw, BC invited 110 candidates. The minimum score for candidates invited in this draw was 91-113 points. The province issued 51 ITAs to candidates under the childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 42202). In the Healthcare-targeted draw, BC invited 25 candidates who scored 60 points. In addition, fewer than five invitations have been issued for other priority occupations (NOCs 31103, 32104). In total, British Columbia issued up to 191 ITAs in this draw. This year, British Columbia has already invited 8,043 candidates.

Alberta updated the AAIP inventory and invited agriculture candidates

On October 3, 2023, Alberta published an update considering the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) inventory. According to the new update, there were around 2,307 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications, 626 Rural Renewal Stream applications, 191 Accelerated Tech Pathway applications, 125 Family Connection Stream applications, 157 applications from priority sectors, and less than ten applications under the Dedicated Healthcare Pathway. In addition, on October 3, 2023, the AAIP invited 33 candidates working in the agriculture sector who scored 313 points. This year, Alberta invited 3,368 candidates and issued 7,968 nomination certificates.

Canada extended measures for temporary and permanent residents affected by wildfires

On October 4, 2023, the Canadian Government extended temporary measures for communities affected by the 2023 wildfire. To be eligible for special measures, applications for document replacement, extension, or restoration must be submitted by November 30, 2023. On June 12, 2023, the Government announced free replacement documents for Canadians and residents who lost or damaged their documents due to the fires. Temporary residents affected by the wildfires whose status was expiring by September 30, 2023, could extend or restore their status in Canada for free.

Canada welcomed new Afghan refugees

On October 3, 2023, the Government of Canada made an update regarding the Afghan refugees arriving in the country. The last update shows Canada has accepted 410 Afghan refugees since September 27, 2023. As of now, Canada has welcomed a total of 39,070 Afghan refugees. Canada received 19,660 Afghans and their families’ applications under the Special Immigration Measures Program for Afghans who had assisted the Government of Canada in Afghanistan. 11,885 Afghans arrived in Canada under that program, and 20,010 Afghan nationals came under the Humanitarian program. In addition, Canada admitted 2,560 applicants under the pathway for extended family members of former interpreters.
