Saskatchewan issued more invitations to international graduates under the SINP
On October 25, 2021, Saskatchewan updated the number of spots remaining through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) for international graduates in the framework of the temporary immigration policy. The provincial government has allocated 1,000 spots for direct submission of a nomination application for those who resided in the province on September 1, 2020, and has completed an academic program in the province. Since the last week, the province has accepted 9 applications, and 415 spots remain available. SINP updates this data every Monday. Since the launch of the program, SINP has accepted 585 applications from international graduates.

Council of Atlantic Ministers of Education and Training launched a website for students
On October 25, 2021, the Council of Atlantic Ministers of Education and Training (CAMET) launched a new website for students to help them understand the Canadian labour market and the types of current jobs, as well as support their career planning and transition into the workforce. On the website called www.careersatlanticcanada.ca, students can find resources in the Post-Secondary section that can assist them to explore and reflect on career options, information, and opportunities in Atlantic Canada at any stage of the post-secondary experience.

Private Canadian career colleges call the Government to make their international students PGWP-eligible
Canada’s private career colleges want the Federal Government to issue Post-Graduate Work Permits (PGWP) to their international students. George Hood, the chair of the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC), said in an interview that there are not “enough Canadians to fill the demand for personal support workers but if [private colleges] could offer the work permits, we could bring in more students.” NACC argues that thousands of additional international students would study at private career colleges every year if the Government made these colleges PGWP-eligible.

The survey revealed racist workplace behaviour at IRCC
A public opinion research company Pollara Strategic Insights introduced a 20-page document, a report examining workplace racism at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). According to the outcome of the survey, there were repeated instances of employees and supervisors using offensive terms with their racialized colleagues. Racialized IRCC employees told that they were marginalized in the workplace — kept in precarious temporary contract positions disproportionately and for a long time which prevented them from advocating for their rights to promotion or from speaking out against racist incidents.
