Alberta updated the AAIP inventory
On October 13, 2022, Alberta published the inventory update of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). According to the new update, there were around 1,075 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications and 260 Expressions of Interest in the Alberta Express Entry pool. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) provided 6,250 nomination certificates to Alberta in 2021 for nominations under the AAIP, and the provincial government issued all 6,250 certificates last year. For 2022, IRCC provided 6,500 nominations for the AAIP. In 2022, Alberta nominated 5,283 applicants and invited 2,320 candidates.

Ottawa published a new update for Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot applications
On October 13, 2022, the Government of Canada published updated instructions for the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) to provide additional information related to the Pilot eligibility requirements. The new update waived the time requirement for work experience selection criteria. Suppose there is a work experience selection criterion. In that case, decision-makers are to evaluate whether the total required work experience has been obtained before the applicant submits their application, allowing breaks and gaps in the accumulated work history. In addition, the Government updated instructions regarding using a loan as proof of settlement funds and announced that clients can now apply for the EMPP online.

Partnership Initiative between the MPNP and Pinawa resumed
On October 13, 2022, the Government of Manitoba announced that the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) and the Local Government District of Pinawa resumed the Pinawa Community Partnership Initiative. This initiative aims to make it easier for entrepreneurs from other countries who want to invest in a business venture in the Pinawa region. Program participants will be connected to a network of experts, resources, and business development assistance that is specifically tailored for them. The Pinawa Economic Development Office will recommend eligible businesses to the MPNP’s Entrepreneur Pathway.

Newfoundland and Labrador welcomed the third airlift with Ukrainian nationals
On October 12, 2022, Immigration, Population Growth and Skills of Newfoundland and Labrador announced the arrival of the third airlift arriving with 177 Ukrainian nationals. More than 1,000 Ukrainians have moved to Newfoundland and Labrador after Russia’s criminal invasion. 75% of Ukrainian newcomers have already obtained successful permanent employment. The average stay of Ukrainian nationals in temporary accommodations is around four weeks, which was more than a month before. None of the Ukrainian citizens required accommodation in provincial social housing after leaving the temporary accommodations.
