Toronto Business Development Centre launched Ontario’s Entrepreneur Success Initiative

On November 8, 2022, the Government of Ontario announced that the Toronto Business Development Centre (TBDC) launched the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s (OINP) Entrepreneur Success Initiative (OINP-ESI). As reported in the 2021 Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review: Build Ontario, the Pilot will help 100 immigrant entrepreneurs establish and grow businesses across the province, outside of the Greater Toronto Area and support certain regions of the province to recover from the COVID‑19 pandemic.

The Government of Alberta updated the AAIP inventory

On November 8, 2022, Alberta published the update considering the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) inventory. According to the new update, there were around 935 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications and 240 Expressions of Interest in the Alberta Express Entry pool. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) provided 6,250 nomination certificates to Alberta in 2021 for nominations under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), and the AAIP issued all 6,250 certificates last year. For 2022, IRCC provided 6,500 nominations for the AAIP. In 2022, Alberta nominated 5,837 applicants and invited 2,320 candidates.

The OINP website will be temporarily unavailable

As required by the Federal Government of Canada, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is transitioning to the new National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021 system on November 16, 2022. As part of this transition, the OINP e-filing system will be closed for the new activity between November 16 and 21, 2022. As a result of the update, applicants will need to resubmit their Expression of Interest profiles on or after November 22. However, applicants’ previous submissions will be available to make the process easier.

Manitoba holds the Destination Canada Mobility Forum

On November 8, 2022, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) announced that it would be partnering with the Economic Development Council for Manitoba Bilingual Municipalities (CDEM), Economic Development Winnipeg (EDW), Acceuil Francophone, and the Manitoba Francophone Immigration Network (RIF-MB) to provide employers with labour solutions at the Destination Canada Mobility Forum. The MPNP will hold orientation sessions for employers to help them find qualified workers for their businesses. The Destination Canada Mobility Forum is a recruitment fair for skilled bilingual workers from Paris (France) and Rabat (Morocco) that will take place from November 16 to 23. Business owners are encouraged to register for the orientation sessions to learn more about the event.

BC invited up to 13 candidates under the Entrepreneur Stream

On November 8, 2022, British Columbia held new draws for business candidates in the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). In the Base Category of the Entrepreneur Stream, BC PNP invited 8 candidates. The lowest score of this round was 120 points, 4 points more than the previous draw. In addition, the province invited fewer than 5 candidates in the Entrepreneur Immigration – Regional Pilot category with a minimum score of 114. The maximum points in the Entrepreneur Stream grid are 200. 120 points candidates can get for self-declared factors such as Experience & Ownership, Net Worth, Investment, etc. Another 80 points are given for the business concept. This year, the province invited up to 49 entrepreneurs under the BCPNP.

New Brunswick announced a new immigration stream

On November 7, 2022, the Government of New Brunswick launched a new immigration stream called the New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot (NB CWP) to encourage skilled workers to relocate and fill positions difficult to staff. With this new stream, employers have more freedom in assisting newcomers with skills training, language acquisition, and integration into provincial life. The five-year pilot program will be monitored and evaluated regularly, ensuring that it is always responsive to immigration needs and providing the best possible outcomes for the province.
