Travel restrictions extended until January 21, 2021

On November 29, 2020, Public Safety Canada extended all travel restrictions implemented to combat the spread of the COVID-19 until January 21, 2020. Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair and Minister of Health Patty Hajdu announced that Canada extends the Mandatory Isolation Order and temporary travel restrictions for all foreigners to enter entry into Canada from a country other than the United States until January 21, 2021. This date will Canada to align international travel restrictions with the US travel restrictions. At the moment, travel restrictions for travellers from the USA remain in place until December 21, 2020. Despite those measures prohibiting visitors from entering Canada, some international students with approved study permits as well as foreign workers with approved work permits will be allowed to come to Canada.

Canada renews in-Canada biometrics collection

On November 27, 2020, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the renewal of biometrics collection by Service Canada effective November 30, when the new online appointment system will reopen. Since September, Service Canada has been calling clients to book an appointment. Everyone who was not contacted by Service Canada yet can use the online appointments system to schedule a biometric collection. This also applies to in-Canada PR applicants, who did not provide biometrics within the last 10 years.

New Brunswick updated the lists of Designated Employers in the AIPP

New Brunswick has updated the list of provincial employers designated to participate in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP). In October 2020, New Brunswick added 161 new employers. Since the last update, the total number of its designated employers reached is 835. In total, there are 2,786 employers in all four Atlantic provinces who can hire foreign workers in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot.

You can confirm your permanent residence via the confirmation portal

As one of the measures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has launched the Permanent Residence Confirmation Portal. This tool allows confirming your status without in-person interviews. It also allows confirming that a person is in Canada, updating the address, submitting a more recent photo to be used for a PR card, or receiving proof of permanent resident (PR) status. The new portal is user friendly and is optimized both for desktop and mobile devices.
