Saskatchewan announced a new pilot under the SINP

On November 25, 2021, the Government of Saskatchewan announced a new pilot under the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) to tackle the hard-to-fill positions in the province. Hard-To-Fill Skills Pilot Program (HTFSPP) is scheduled to launch in December 2021. The Pilot will allow Saskatchewan employers to hire workers through overseas missions, or other international recruitment activities, into jobs that have low recruitment chances in the province. To be eligible, applicants must have a full-time, permanent job offer and SINP job approval letter for an eligible occupation; meet minimum language proficiency level, and meet the educational and work experience requirements.

Canada has updated the COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Certification form for interpreters

On November 26, 2021, the Government of Canada introduced an updated COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Certification form for interpreter professional services contracts. New requirements include procedures for obtaining the COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Certification for accredited interpreters to continue their jobs. Interpreters who cannot be vaccinated due to a medical condition, religion, or other reasons under the Canadian Human Rights Act must identify accommodation and mitigation measures for approval by the Responsibility Centre Manager (RCM). In addition, the Government has also updated IMM 2048E form – the Professional Services Contract for Interpretation Services form.

The number of job vacancies available in Canada exceeded 1 million in September 2021

On November 25, 2021, Statistics Canada published a report analyzing the Canadian labour market and payroll employment. According to the report, there were 1,014,600 job vacancies in early September. The majority of these vacancies were in the accommodation and food services sector (196,100). Businesses in this sector faced problems with the recruitment of appropriately skilled employees. There also were 131,200 vacancies in the health care and social assistance sector and 121,700 vacancies in the retail trade sector. In addition, job vacancies reached record highs in the construction and manufacturing sectors with 85,400 and 82,600 vacant positions, respectively.

Canada cancelled direct flights from 7 South African countries

On November 26, 2021, the Government of Canada suspended all direct flights from seven South African countries due to the new variant of concern of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. These South African countries are South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. Passengers, who will travel from these countries to Canada via a third country must be able to demonstrate a pre-departure negative COVID-19 molecular test result regardless of their vaccination status. Canada’s health minister, Jean-Yves Duclos advised people, who travelled to Southern Africa over the past two weeks to get a COVID-19 test and stay in isolation until they receive a negative test result.
