IRCC issued 4,800 ITAs in the new all-program Express Entry draw
On May 24, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 4,800 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates under Express Entry. In this draw, IRCC continued inviting candidates under all immigration programs. In round #249, the cut-off score was 488 points, five points more than in the previous all-program draw. The tie-breaking rule for this round was December 26, 2022, at 01:12:48 UTC. As of May 24, 2023, there are 226,842 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool, 1,454 more than in the previous update. In 2023, Canada issued 49,948 ITAs through thirteen Express Entry draws.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador announced the Ukraine Job Connect program
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador will provide over $11 million to help nearly 2,800 Ukrainians settle in the province. This funding includes housing support, a new initiative called Ukraine Job Connect that helps employers hire Ukrainians, and access to English classes. In addition, the homestay hosting program offers approved families $1,000 per month for up to five months. Ukrainians can also receive up to $6,000 to help with moving expenses. The government also offers a $3 million fund for innovative housing projects, such as repurposing vacant property and co-housing initiatives. Employment services are also available, including a 42-week wage subsidy for eligible employers and training for jobs in various sectors.

Canada updated immigration inventories and backlogs
On May 23, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated the data on immigration inventories and backlogs. According to the last update, there were 2,006,000 applications for permanent residence, temporary residence and citizenship approvals in all IRCC inventories. According to the update, 40.3% of applications in the inventory exceeded service standards. IRCC aims to process 80% of applications within their service standard, though some complex cases may require a comprehensive assessment. Currently, 38% of temporary residence requests – including ones for visiting, studying, or working abroad and 51% of permanent residency applications are in backlog. Additionally, 25% of citizenship applications are also exceeding service standards.
