Manitoba issued invitations to Ukrainian candidates
On May 20, 2022, the Government of Manitoba held the fourth draw for Ukrainian candidates. In this draw, the province invited 13 candidates through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). To be eligible, applicants must be a Ukrainian citizen, have a minimum of CLB 4 in each language band, have connections to the province (close relative, family-like, community, previous employment or studies in Manitoba), and score at least 60 points, and possess a valid language test in one of the official languages. To date, the province has issued 120 invitations to Ukrainian candidates through the special draws. In 2022, Manitoba invited 2,581 candidates under the MPNP.

New Brunswick stopped the Express Entry Stream
On May 20, 2022, the Government of New Brunswick announced that the province has temporarily paused the New Brunswick Express Entry (NBEE) Stream. Effective immediately, no further letters of Interest (LOI) or Invitations to Apply (ITA) will be sent while the Stream is paused. Those applications submitted under the NBEE Stream on May 20, 2022, or later, will not be finalized until further notice. The NBEE stream is one of New Brunswick’s PNP streams that does not need a job offer to be qualified. Candidates may apply for Permanent Residence to the federal government of Canada after receiving a nomination under the NBEE stream.

New Express Entry applications will be processed in 6 months.
Until the epidemic, the Canadian government sought to complete the majority of Express Entry immigration applications within six months. However, because of the outbreak, applicants have had to wait considerably longer. Non-Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Express Entry applicants are waiting an average of over 20 months for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to complete their permanent residency applications. Fortunately, IRCC has now stated that it will soon be able to process most new Express Entry applications within six months. This change will become effective once IRCC resumes issuing Express Entry invitations to Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), CEC, and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) candidates in early July.

Ottawa approved more than 71,000 applications under the CUAET
On May 20, 2022, the Government of Canada updated the number of Ukrainian newcomers arriving in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET). According to the latest update, between January 1 and May 15, 2022, 6,369 Ukrainians arrived in Canada by land, and an additional 25,832 arrived by air. Between March 17 and May 18, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) received 241,620 applications under the CUAET. The applications of 112,035 Ukrainian nationals have been approved so far.

Canada invited 1,673 candidates under the International Experience Canada
Over the last week, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held new draws in the pools of International Experience Canada (IEC). From May 16 to May 22, Canada invited 1,673 young foreigners to apply for an IEC open work permit. As of May 20, there are 21,359 candidates registered in the pool, waiting for the invitation. In this round, there were 1 ITA for Andorra, 219 ITAs for Australia, 31 ITAs for Austria, 23 ITAs for Belgium, 5 ITAs for Chile, 2 ITAs for Croatia, 30 ITAs for the Czech Republic, 13 ITAs for Denmark, 3 ITAs for Estonia, 295 ITAs for France, 124 ITAs for Germany, 18 ITAs for Hong Kong, 187 ITAs for Ireland, 60 ITAs for Italy, 136 ITAs for Japan, 67 ITAs for South Korea, 1 ITA for Latvia, 8 ITAs for Lithuania, 2 ITAs for Luxembourg, 12 ITAs for the Netherlands, 51 ITAs for New Zealand, 1 ITA for Norway, 20 ITAs for Poland, 27 ITAs for Portugal, 13 ITAs for Slovakia, 36 ITAs for Spain, 13 ITAs for Sweden, 3 ITAs for Switzerland, 7 ITAs for Taiwan, and 314 ITAs for the United Kingdom. In 2022, Canada issued 78,518 ITAs under the IEC Program.
