NBPNP temporarily halted the New Brunswick Skilled Worker Stream

The New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP) has temporarily paused the New Brunswick Skilled Worker stream for any Expression of Interest (EOI) submitted after May 17th, 2024. This pause is necessary for the province to manage this stream’s high volume of candidates. The NBPNP recommended that foreign nationals and employers with jobs or job offers in NOC TEERs 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 consider the Atlantic Immigration Program as an alternative. Invitations will still be issued to all eligible French-speaking candidates, as evidenced by TEF or TCF language test results, meeting the NCLC 4 proficiency level in all four language competencies, and with a qualifying job or job offer in a TEER 0,1,2,3 or 4 position. The NBPNP Skilled Worker stream will still accept EOIs, which could lead to an invitation when the program reopens.

Questions remain as the Federal Government gets ready to change the Citizenship Act

The Canadian Federal Government is reportedly preparing a bill to amend the Citizenship Act, which could impact more than 3,500 stateless individuals currently residing in Canada. These individuals, known as “Lost Canadians,” include former citizens who had their citizenship revoked due to provisions of the act that have since been repealed. Despite a court order to amend the act by June 19, specifics about the proposed changes remain unclear. Concerns persist about a potential “substantial connection test,” which could require parents to prove their ties to Canada to pass citizenship to children born abroad.
