IRCC strikes have ended as the union reached a tentative agreement with the Government of Canada
The Government of Canada has reached a tentative agreement with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) after 155,000 public servants, including the union workers of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), decided to strike. Union members started the strike on April 19, 2023, and ended on May 1, 2023, at 9 AM Eastern Time. According to the article, PSAC has reached a tentative agreement that includes higher wages to keep up with inflation. The agreement also includes new and improved language regarding working from home and other favourable provisions for its members.

Canada approved 40 more start-ups in February
Canada’s Start-Up Visa (SUV) program, which promotes entrepreneurship and job creation through immigration, had a strong start this year and continued to bring in new permanent residents in February. According to the latest data from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), 100 immigrant entrepreneurs have settled in Canada through the Start-Up Visa (SUV) program in 2023, which is a 5.3% increase from the same period last year. British Columbia and Ontario have attracted the most immigrant entrepreneurs this year – 40 and 30 start-ups, respectively.

Job vacancies dropped by four percent in February 2023
In February, job vacancies in Canada fell by four percent to 841,300, reversing the previous month’s increase. The education, healthcare, and social services sectors saw a decrease in job postings during the second month of the year. The job vacancy rate in Canada, which is the proportion of vacant positions to total labour demand, comprising both filled and vacant positions, decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 4.7 percent in February. Despite the decline in vacancies in the healthcare sector, the number of job postings in this sector was the highest among all industries for the eighth consecutive month in February.
