Ontario held the first draw in the Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream

On May 18, 2021, the Government of Ontario issued 138 invitations to apply (ITA) through the Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). The minimum score in this draw was 77 points. The Stream is open for foreign nationals, who have an eligible job offer in a skilled occupation at Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A or B of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) from an employer in Ontario, and must have completed a program at a Canadian Designated Learning Institution, and intend to immigrate to the province. In total, OINP issued 3,682 invitations in 2021.

Canada introduced guidance to support Hong Kong residents to come to Canada

The Government of Canada issued new guidance for special measures to help Hong Kong residents to immigrate to Canada. The guidance provides new instructions on the administration of temporary and permanent residence measures for Hong Kong youth and facilitative measures to support family reunification for those who meet the eligibility criteria. In addition, the Government created a new Org ID specifically for open work permit applications. The guidance clarified that open work permit fees will be collected from applicants applying under a public policy.

British Columbia invited 82 persons in the Tech Pilot

On May 18, 2021, British Columbia held a new draw in the Tech Pilot of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). This time, the province invited 82 candidates in four categories: Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker, Skills Immigration – International Graduate, Express Entry British Columbia – Skilled Worker, and Express Entry British Columbia – International Graduate. The lowest score in all categories traditionally was 80 points. In 2021, British Columbia invited 848 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in the Tech Pilot. In total, BCPNP issued 4,438 ITAs to date.

The Government of Canada updated program delivery instructions for protected persons

On May 18, 2021, Canada introduced program delivery updates for protected persons. According to the new instructions, as of May 13, 2021, IRCC expanded the launch of the Permanent Residence Portal and enabled protected persons in Canada to submit their applications for permanent residence online. The update also includes information about the intake and application completeness. Now, for both online and paper applications, applicants are required to submit only 1 passport-sized photograph of each applicant and family member instead of two.

Sudbury issued 12 invitation in the round of RNIP

On May 18, 2021, the City of Greater Sudbury conducted a new round of invitations in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP). In this round, Sudbury invited 12 candidates and the lowest score to receive the invitation was 150 points, 55 points fewer than in the May 11 draw. Sudbury also announced all applications considered in this draw were submitted before May 10, 2021. All invited candidates can now apply for a community recommendation. In total, the community invited 52 candidates in 2021.

New Brunswick introduced a new guideline for the New Brunswick Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program

On May 13, 2021, New Brunswick released an updated official guide entitled “The Employer’s Guide to the New Brunswick Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program”. New Brunswick is one of the provinces participating in the program. AIPP allows the Government of New Brunswick to help workers with the skills, education, and work experience to contribute to New Brunswick’s economy and fill labour market shortages in the province. All applicants must show their intention to reside and work in New Brunswick permanently and meet all requirements. So far, in 2021, Canada granted PR to 200 foreign nationals in New Brunswick via the AIPP.
