IRCC held a new PNP-targeted Express Entry draw
On May 10, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 589 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in the fourth PNP-targeted draw of the year. In round #248, the cut-off score was 691 points, 57 points fewer than in the previous PNP-targeted Express Entry draw. The tie-breaking rule for this round was March 8, 2023, at 16:42:17 UTC. As of May 10, 2023, there were 225,388 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool, 4,801 fewer than the previous update. In 2023, Canada issued 45,148 invitations in six Express Entry draws.

Canada to survey IMP work permit holders in May
The Government of Canada will conduct two surveys of work permit holders under the International Mobility Program (IMP) in May 2023. These surveys will help Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to gather important information about the experiences of individuals who hold work permits in Canada. The first survey is for individuals with open work permits, while the second is for those with employer-specific work permits. The information gathered from these surveys will be used to improve the experience of work permit holders in Canada.

ESDC updated processing times for LMIA applications
On May 10, 2023, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) updated the processing times for the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) applications under various streams. Based on statistics from all processing centres, the current average LMIA processing times have reduced for all streams except the Global Talent, Permanent Residence, and Low-wage streams.

Ottawa introduced Canada’s new passport design
On May 10, 2023, the Government of Canada introduced the new passport design with state-of-the-art security features and new artwork, maintaining its status as one of the most secure travel documents in the world for all Canadians. Features include a polycarbonate data page, laser engraved personal information, a Kinegram over the main photo, a custom see-through window, a variable laser image, and a temperature-sensitive ink feature. The new design, which will start rolling out later this summer, celebrates Canada’s heritage and identity with images of its natural beauty throughout the four seasons and a new cover design with a maple leaf outline.
