IRCC released an application guide for new immigration pathways

On May 5, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) launched guidelines for six new temporary immigration programs targeting essential workers and international graduates residing in Canada. Eligible candidates can apply through IRCC’s online portal starting May 6, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. EDT time. Canada will accept 20,000 health care workers (40 different NOCs), 30,000 other essential workers (95 NOCs), and 40,000 international graduates. IRCC will accept applications via the new online portal until November 5, 2021, or until it reaches the cap of 90,000 applications under these 3 streams. Applicants themselves will have to submit and upload their documents since representatives will not have access to the portal. In addition, IRCC will accept the applications in 3 additional streams with unlimited caps for French-speaking international graduates and Francophone essential workers (Stream A and Stream B).

Children and youth who have not received the COVID-19 vaccine are not included in this exemption until they are able to be vaccinated. As of May 3, in Yukon, 65 percent of eligible adults had both shots of vaccine and 74 percent had their first doses.

Minister Mendocino hinted when Federal Skilled Worker invitations are expected?

The outbreak of the COVID-19 affected the work of Express Entry. In 2020, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) concentrated on the provincial nominees and candidates in the Canadian Experience Class. From September to December 2020, IRCC started again to accept candidates in the Federal Skilled Worker program, however, since January 2021, the Immigration Department again returned to the practice of PNP and CEC-specific draws. In one of the interviews with Minister Marco Mendicino, he was asked about the overall immigration targets, Mendicino said that he is confident that as we see more Canadians get vaccinated, we find ourselves in a better position, and by this summer and fall we hopefully will be able to welcome newcomers eventually as we have always done. Following the introduction of the new temporary pathways and CEC draws, IRCC will have to eventually get back to the candidates overseas to meet the immigration targets.
