BCPNP issued 374 invitation in the new round
On March 30, 2021, British Columbia conducted two draws in the Skills Immigration (SI) and Express Entry British Columbia (EEBC) categories of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP). In the general draw, the province issued 330 invitations. The lowest scores in all categories did not change:
- Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker 96
- Skills Immigration – International Graduate 94
- Skills Immigration – Entry Level and Semi-Skilled 81
- Express Entry British Columbia – Skilled Worker 96
- Express Entry British Columbia – International Graduate 94
The second round of the day targeted only candidates in NOC 0621 – Retail and Wholesale Trade Managers and NOC 0631 – Restaurant and Food Service Managers. BCPNP invited 44 such candidates. Both NOCs have a high number of registrants within the BC PNP Skills Immigration Registration System. The lowest score of those candidates was 113 points, one point less compared to the previous draw for these NOCs. In total, British Columbia issued 2,909 ITAs under the BCPNP in 2021.

AINP invited 300 candidates in Alberta Express Entry Stream
On March 30, 2021, Alberta released a new update about the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) inventory. Alberta received 2,275 applications in the Alberta Opportunity Stream and 125 Expressions of Interest (EOI) in the Alberta Express Entry Stream. These applications are waiting for the eligibility assessment. In addition, on March 26, 2021, Alberta held a new round in the Alberta Express Entry Stream and issued 300 Notifications of Interest (NOI). The lowest score in this round did not change and was 301 points. In 2021, AINP already invited 1,009 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in the Alberta Express Entry. The 2021 quota for AINP has not been announced yet.

Three provinces took almost all LMIAs in 2020
Canada approved 123,312 applications for Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) from Canadian Employers wishing to hire Temporary Foreign Workers. The highest number of approved LMIAs was for employers in Ontario – 40,053 (32.5%). Quebec is second with 32,965 LMIAs (26.7%). British Columbia was the third with 30,380 approved LMIAs (24.6%). These three provinces combined hold 83.8% of all approved LMIAs in 2020. The biggest drop in LMIAs was in Alberta – while in 2019 there were 12,834 LMIAs, due to limitations imposed by the provincial governments on LMIAs for certain NOCs, there were only 8,045 in 2020.

Canada to welcome more Yazidi refugees
On March 30, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) published a news release regarding plans to facilitate efforts to help the ISIS victims and Yazidi refugees in particular. According to IRCC, since 2017 and until January 31, 2021, IRCC resettled over 1,400 ISIS victims, including 1,356 government-assisted survivors (1,149 Yazidi women and girls) and 94 privately sponsored survivors (all Yazidi women and girls). IRCC also announced a new policy to help those refugees to reunite with their families including extended family members.
