Ontario held two draws under the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream

On March 16, 2023, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) held new rounds of invitations in Ontario’s Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream. The province issued 271 Invitations to Apply for the Francophone candidates. The Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) range of candidates who received the Notification of Interest (NOI) from the OINP was between 291-489 points. In addition, the province invited 344 candidates with CRS scores between 400-489. In 2022, Ontario issued 9,934 invitations to eligible candidates under all streams of the OINP.

Parliamentary Secretary met with immigration stakeholders and international students in Vancouver

On March 16, 2023, Marie-France Lalonde, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), concluded her visit to Vancouver. The Parliamentary Secretary met with various immigration stakeholders, international students, alums, and international student advisors to learn about their experience studying and living in Canada. Furthermore, she conversed with Professor Antje Ellermann and graduate students from the University of British Columbia Centre for Migration Studies to learn about the current issues in Canada’s immigration and asylum system and possible opportunities.

Ottawa published ministerial instructions amendments after the NOC 2021 introduction

On March 16, 2023, the Government of Canada published ministerial instructions amendments after the National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021 change. On September 23, 2022, the government expanded the geographic boundaries for participating communities to allow more employers to participate in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) Program, increased the application deadline to August 2024, expanded the job offer range available to candidates with specific work experience, and decreased the amount of settlement funds applicants were required to have. The recent Ministerial Instructions will not affect applications received by a community before September 23, 2022.

The Yukon increased the number of allocations under the Yukon Nominee Program

On March 16, 2023, the Government of Yukon announced that the territory increased the number of allocations under the Provincial Nominee Program (YNP) for 2023, allowing more foreign workers to immigrate to the Yukon. By increasing the Yukon’s nominee allocations from 300 to 430 for 2023, the YNP assists employers in filling essential positions with foreign nationals who wish to become permanent residents of the territory. For the second time since its launch in 2007, the Yukon Nominee Program reached its full capacity of 300 spaces by 2022 and aims to accept even more immigrants this year.
