BC’s minimum wage rises to $17.85 per hour

British Columbia is set to implement a new minimum wage increase on June 1, 2025, raising the hourly rate from $17.40 to $17.85 per hour. This 2.6% increase maintains BC’s position as the province with one of the highest minimum wages in Canada. The adjustment affects various worker categories, including liquor servers, live-in camp leaders, and resident caretakers. While the increase aims to address rising living costs, it falls significantly below Metro Vancouver’s current living wage of $27.05, sparking ongoing debates about wage adequacy in high-cost urban areas.
