Canada is taking steps to address issues with the recently revised data on temporary foreign workers

The Canadian Federal Government will release a full report on temporary foreign work permit holders in Canada after it was discovered that over twenty years of data had been tampered with without explanation. In February, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada published figures indicating that over one million people held work permits under the International Mobility Program. However, the department recently significantly revised the numbers to around 675,000 permit holders. This revision caused concern for some economists that the number of temporary foreign workers in the country may be obscured. The department said that the revised numbers were not correctly labelled and intends to publish figures on narrower and broader groups of work permit holders in the future but did not provide a timeline.
