Canada’s population has now surpassed 40 million people
Canada’s population has reached a significant milestone, hitting 40 million people just before 3 pm on Friday, June 16. According to Statistics Canada, the country’s population growth rate currently stands at 2.7%, its highest since 1957 during the post-war baby boom. This growth rate is due to a few factors, including recent birth trends, deaths, and international migration data. Last year saw a record increase of 1.05 million people, 96% of that increase due to international migration. Statistics Canada predicts that Canada’s population could reach 50 million as early as 2043 if current trends continue. This projection underscores the importance of ongoing efforts to manage population growth and ensure that Canada remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Quebec will issue permanent residency for candidates who possess strong French language skills
Starting in June 2023, the Quebec Government will implement new regulations for permanent residency applications. Specifically, applicants will be required to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the French language. This proficiency will be measured according to the Quebec scale of French proficiency levels for adult immigrants, with level 7 being the minimum required level. These changes are part of a broader effort by the Quebec government to promote and preserve the use of the French language in the province. While some have criticized the new regulations as too strict, others argue that they are necessary to maintain Quebec’s unique cultural identity and ensure that immigrants can fully integrate into Quebecois society.
