Nearly 230,000 Ukrainians have arrived in Canada since March 2022
On June 1, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated the number of Ukrainian newcomers arriving in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET). According to the latest update, between January 1, 2022, and May 28, 2023, 31,406 Ukrainians arrived in Canada by land, and 196,345 Ukrainians reached by air. Between March 17, 2022, and May 20, 2023, IRCC received 1,035,017 applications under the CUAET. In total, IRCC has approved 729,970 applications from Ukrainian nationals. From March 17, 2022, to May 20, 2023, 156,280 Ukrainian arrived in Canada under the CUAET program.

Ontario has the most trucking job vacancies in Canada
Ontario has a high demand for qualified workers to fill trucking jobs, making it a great opportunity for foreigners under economic immigration programs. Job Bank listed 882 trucking jobs in late May under the National Occupational Classification 2021 code 73300. Greater Toronto Area has the most trucking job opportunities, with 56% of the positions in the province. Truckers in Ontario can earn a median hourly wage of $24, which can go up to $32.34 per hour, leading to an annual wage scale of up to $63,063 for a standard 37.5-hour work week.

Visa officers deny study permits to many international students wishing to study in Quebec
Canada is rejecting many international students’ study permit applications to attend colleges and universities in Quebec. This is due to a misplaced fear that these foreign nationals will not return to their countries of origin after their studies. According to a report by the Institut du Quebec, international students from African countries hoping to study in the francophone province are particularly affected, with 72% being turned down. The Institut argues that these international students represent a valuable pool of potential immigrants to Canada and that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) should allow more of them into the country to pursue their studies.
