Prince Edward Island held two draws in the first half of June

In the first half of June, Prince Edward Island held two Expression of Interest draws under the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). On June 1, 2023, PEI conducted a new invitation round in the Labour Impact Category and invited 97 candidates. On June 15, 2023, the province issued 118 invitations to apply to skilled workers in the Labour Impact and Express Entry streams. PEI also invited four candidates to the Business Work Permit Entrepreneurs stream. The lowest score for business candidates was 82 points, 17 points more than in the May draw. In 2023, PEI invited a total of 1,321 candidates. According to the schedule, the next PEI PNP draw will occur on June 29, 2023.

IRCC issued nearly 3,500 ITAs in the new IEC draws

Over the last two weeks, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held new draws in the pools of International Experience Canada (IEC). From June 3 to June 16, Canada invited 3,487 young foreigners to apply for an IEC open work permit. As of June 16, 23,707 candidates registered in the pool, awaiting the invitation. In these rounds, there were 1 ITA for Andorra, 508 ITAs for Australia, 82 ITAs for Austria, 79 ITAs for Belgium, 35 ITAs for Costa Rica, 7 ITAs for Croatia, 46 ITAs for the Czech Republic, 18 ITAs for Denmark, 3 ITAs for Estonia, 285 ITAs for France, 257 ITAs for Germany, 23 ITAs for Greece, 12 ITAs for Hong Kong, 215 ITAs for Ireland, 131 ITAs for Italy, 414 ITAs for Japan, 81 ITAs for Korea, 18 ITAs for Lithuania, 4 ITAs for Luxembourg, 44 ITA for the Netherlands, 149 ITAs for New Zealand, 10 ITAs for Norway, 48 ITAs for Poland, 42 ITAs for Portugal, 18 ITAs for Slovakia, 9 ITAs for Slovenia, 130 ITAs for Spain, 28 ITAs for Sweden, 17 ITAs for Switzerland, 116 ITAs for Taiwan, and 657 ITAs for the United Kingdom. Canada will continue to collaborate with the US under the Safe Third Country Agreement

The Supreme Court of Canada upheld the designation of the United States as a safe third country. Under the Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA), the United States and Canada protect human rights and fundamental freedoms and collaborate on migration, asylum and refugee issues. The Canadian Government will continue working with the United States to ensure that they promote safe and regular pathways for people and support other countries in establishing their domestic policies to protect refugees and asylum seekers.

Ottawa announced new instructions for the Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots

On June 16, 2023, the Government of Canada announced new instructions for assessing new and pending applications under the Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots. On April 30, 2023, the Government amended the Ministerial Instructions, reducing the work experience requirement from 24 to 12 months, clarifying that employers on the job offer must not be businesses, and streamlining the application process for gaining experience category (Category A). Currently, work authorized under the Immigration and Refugees Protection Regulations will be counted as work experience.

The Government of Canada published a new update for the Francophone Mobility Program

As of June 15, 2023, French-speaking foreign nationals living outside Quebec can work in any occupation (excluding the agriculture sector) under the Francophone Mobility Program. To be eligible, applicants must prove they have speaking and listening skills equivalent to a Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) / Niveaux de competence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) level 5 or higher. Candidates who meet all requirements of section R200 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) will help increase the competitiveness of Canada’s academic institutions or economy.
