Canada welcomed 830 Afghan refugees

On June 10, 2022, the Government of Canada made a new update regarding the Afghan refugees in the country. According to the last update, Canada has accepted 830 more Afghan refugees since June 3, 2022. As of now, Canada has welcomed a total of 15,475 Afghan refugees. The Government brought 6,985 Afghans and their families who assisted Canada during the military mission in Afghanistan under the Special Immigration Measures Program. Starting in 2021-2022, Canada plans to provide $1.3 billion over 6 years to bring more vulnerable Afghans to Canada.

Newfoundland and Labrador eased requirements for Ukrainian newcomers allowing them to exchange their Ukrainian driver’s licence

On June 10, 2022, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador introduced an amendment to motor vehicle regulations of the province to allow for the quick exchange of a Ukrainian driver’s licence for a provincial one. Ukrainian newcomers will also be eligible for competitive automobile insurance rates that will allow them to secure jobs faster, ensuring their long-term stay in the province. All Ukrainian newcomers can exchange their licences by providing their old Ukrainian driver’s licences and driving history records. To be eligible, all applicants must be at least 17 years of age.

Canada keeps accepting applications of Ukrainian nationals under the CUAET

On June 10, 2022, the Government of Canada updated the number of Ukrainian newcomers arriving in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET). According to the latest update, between January 1 and June 5, 2022, 7,580 Ukrainians arrived in Canada by land, and an additional 35,707 arrived by air. Between March 17 and June 8, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) received 296,163 applications under the CUAET. To date, the applications of 131,763 Ukrainian nationals have been approved.

Canada invited more candidates under the International Experience Canada

Over the last week, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held new draws in the pools of International Experience Canada (IEC). From June 6 to June 12, Canada invited 3,534 young foreigners to apply for an IEC open work permit. As of June 10, there are 19,980 candidates registered in the pool, waiting for the invitation. In this round, there were 151 ITAs for Australia, 4 ITAs for Austria, 40 ITAs for Belgium, 191 ITAs for Chile, 101 ITAs for Costa Rica, 6 ITAs for Croatia, 54 ITAs for the Czech Republic, 15 ITAs for Denmark, 4 ITAs for Estonia, 1,770 ITAs for France, 123 ITAs for Germany, 13 ITAs for Greece, 9 ITAs for Hong Kong, 125 ITAs for Ireland, 49 ITAs for Italy, 154 ITAs for Japan, 2 ITAs for Korea, 5 ITAs for Lithuania, 1 ITA for Luxembourg, 119 ITAs for the Netherlands, 53 ITAs for New Zealand, 4 ITAs for Norway, 20 ITAs for Poland, 21 ITAs for Portugal, 11 ITAs for Slovakia, 82 ITAs for Spain, 12 ITAs for Sweden, 4 ITAs for Switzerland, 2 ITAs for Taiwan, and 289 ITAs for the United Kingdom. In 2022, Canada issued 85,695 ITAs under the IEC Program.
