Canada reports on Q1 of immigration numbers

According to the latest RBC report, the increase in the number of immigrants increased the Canadian population by 82,000 in the first quarter. This is the result of the federal government’s vigorous efforts to encourage temporary residents to apply for immigration. The growth of study permit and post-graduate work permit (PGWP) holders is also a main driving force for the overall population growth. Increasing immigration has always been one of the federal government’s strategies to deal with population challenges. Canada’s population is ageing and the birth rate is low. Without immigrants, Canada’s growth rate would not meet the standards required for population growth. Approximately 9 million baby boomers will reach retirement age within this decade. Without newcomers, Canada’s workforce will not be able to remain competitive in the world market, and the pressure to take care of the older generation will fall on the smaller groups of workers.
