Ontario allocated $7.74 million to help newcomers
The government of Ontario allocated $7.74 million to 19 new immigrant training courses across the province to assist approximately 2,700 immigrants in learning English and acquiring other skills. According to Monte McNaughton, the Minister of Labour of Ontario, new immigrants account for 30% of Ontario’s labour force and the provincial government is responsible to provide training to help new immigrants. Last year, more than 34,000 new immigrants in Ontario were unemployed or laid off, three times higher than that of local Canadians.

Ontario updated Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program Entrepreneur Stream
On July 2, 2021, the Government of Ontario introduced amendments and an application guide for the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) Entrepreneur Stream. The OINP has implemented regulatory amendments to Ontario Regulation 422/17 and Ontario Regulation 421/17. The new changes will help accelerate the arrival of Entrepreneur Stream applicants in Ontario to begin their businesses and reduce the application monitoring frequency to decrease the burden on applicants as they work to establish and grow their business. The updated application guide and new instructions apply to individuals who submitted expressions of interest or received an invitation to apply to the Entrepreneur Stream after July 1, 2021.

Canada’s affordability attracts immigrant entrepreneurs through the Start-Up Visa program
Canadian cities are more affordable than many other metropolises of the world, according to an annual survey conducted by an American asset management firm. The most expensive Canadian city – Vancouver, is ranked 93rd in the Mercer 2021 Cost of Living City Ranking report, making Canada one of the most prosperous and affordable countries. Other Canadian cities listed in the ranking are Toronto ranked 98th, Montreal 129th, Calgary 145th, and Ottawa 156th. During the COVID-19 pandemic, companies throughout the world were looking for opportunities to replace traditional long-term assignments with alternative, less costly forms of mobility. Canada’s Start-Up Visa program with more reasonable requirements attracts more and more foreign entrepreneurs every year.
