Canada added seven countries to the Student Direct Stream

On July 9, 2021, the Government of Canada added seven new countries to the Student Direct Stream (SDS). Now, applicants of Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as Trinidad and Tobago can also apply to study in Canada under the SDS. The SDS was launched in 2018, allowing students from China, India, the Philippines, Vietnam, Pakistan, Senegal and Morocco to get a study permit within only 20 days. To be eligible for SDS, applicants must have a letter of acceptance from a post-secondary Canadian Designated Learning Institution, proof of full payment for the first academic year, meet the language requirement of CLB 7 or higher in each band, show a Guaranteed Investment Certificate of $10,000 CAD, pass the medical exam, and submit a police certificate in their application. In addition, there are some country-specific requirements.

Ontario updated application processing times in the OINP

On July 8, 2021, Ontario has updated the average processing time in the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). As of now, the processing time in Ontario’s Master Graduates Stream is 30-60 days. For Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream, Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream, and Ph.D. Graduates Stream the processing time is 60-90 days. As for Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream, Employer Job Offer Foreign Worker and Employer Job Offer International Student Stream, it is 90-120 days. The processing time for applications in the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills take 120-150 days to process. The Expression of Interest (EOI) Assessment in the Entrepreneur Stream requires less than 30 days, while the application processing depends on the complexity of the business nomination application.

Manitoba conducted MPNP draw #121

On July 9, 2021, Manitoba conducted a new draw in the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). In round #121, MPNP issued 201 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAA) in the Skilled Workers in Manitoba stream. The minimum score to get the LAA in this category was 445 points, 15 points more compared to draw #119. In the Skilled Workers Overseas stream, Manitoba issued 53 LAAs. The lowest score in the SWO category was 703 points, 138 points more than in the previous round. Manitoba also invited 23 candidates in the International Education Category. In total, Manitoba issued LAAs to 277 candidates, including 48 Express Entry candidates. MPNP has invited 4,999 candidates in 2021 and 2088 of them in the Express Entry.

Ontario issued 5,882 nomination certificates in 2021

On July 8, 2021, the Ontario government posted a new update on the issuance of nomination certificates in the framework of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). So far, Ontario has issued nominations to 5,882 foreign nationals, 723 nominations more compared to the previous update on June 10. Last year, Ontario distributed invitations to 16,976 candidates and issued nominations to 8,050 main applicants, including 7,249 spouses and dependent children. In 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) allocated 8,350 spots to OINP, plus additional 250 nominations for temporary foreign workers in intermediate skilled occupations (NOC C).
