IRCC held the second healthcare-targeted Express Entry draw of 2024

On July 5, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held the second occupation-specific Express Entry draw of the week and issued 3,750 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates working in healthcare occupations. In round #301, the cut-off score was 445 points, 23 points more than in the previous healthcare-targeted Express Entry draw. The tie-breaking rule for this round was May 07, 2024, at 21:27:04 UTC. This year, Canada issued 49,924 ITAs in 23 Express Entry draws.

ESDC announced new LMIA processing times

On July 4, 2024, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) updated the processing times for the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) applications under various streams. Based on statistics from all processing centres, this update provides a view of the current average LMIA processing times. It is important to note that the processing times have decreased for the Agricultural stream and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program and increased or remained the same for other streams.

Canada introduced a new free trade agreement with Ukraine

On July 5, 2024, Canada introduced new instructions for businesspersons under the Canada–Ukraine Free Trade Agreement (CUFTA). Provisions allowing temporary entry of businesspersons took effect on July 1, 2024. The categories include business visitors, intracompany transfers, investors, and professionals. The CUFTA allows work permit applications to be assessed under paragraph 204(a) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR), part of the International Mobility Program (IMP). PEI economy continues to grow despite slowing expansion

The 50th Annual Statistical Review, released on July 5, 2024, shows that Prince Edward Island (PEI) maintains the fastest-growing economy among Canadian provinces, second only to Nunavut. Despite a slowdown in economic expansion for the second consecutive year, significant growth areas in 2023 include a 3.9% population increase to 173,787, a record-high employment average of 89,000 with a 5.7% increase, and an 8.3% rise in total labour income. Additionally, farm cash receipts hit an all-time high of $814.8 million, retail sales grew by 4.1% to $3.5 billion, and international exports surged by 17.4% to $2.3 billion.
