Alberta updated the AAIP inventory and invited more healthcare professionals

On July 26, 2024, Alberta published the update considering the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) inventory. According to the new update, there were around 3,326 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications, 1,245 Rural Renewal Stream applications, 291 Tourism and Hospitality Stream applications, 1,321 applications under the Alberta Express Entry stream, and four under Entrepreneur Streams. In addition, on July 15, 2024, the AAIP invited 26 candidates under the Dedicated Healthcare Pathway. The minimum score for the draw was 306 points. This year, Alberta invited 734 candidates through the AAIP Express Entry streams.

IRCC updated bilateral agreements with Luxembourg

On July 26, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced an update to the International Experience Canada (IEC) bilateral agreements. Specifically, the Government of Canada has expanded the age eligibility range for Luxembourg citizens, changing it from the previous 18 to 30 years to a new range of 18 to 35 years. This change aims to provide more opportunities for young adults from Luxembourg to experience working and travelling in Canada. This year, 30 candidates from Luxembourg came to Canada through the IEC.

Alberta introduced temporary support measures for wildfire-affected applicants

On July 26, 2024, Alberta announced temporary measures to support applicants impacted by the province’s wildfires. The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) will assist those whose employment is affected by wildfire evacuations. Applications tied to job offers or residences in evacuated communities will be held for up to one year from the evacuation date. Affected applicants have one year to meet AAIP criteria, including finding new employment if necessary. Additionally, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has introduced special measures, effective July 19 to November 30, 2024, allowing for free replacement of lost documents and transitions to open work permits.

IRCC invited nearly 3,000 candidates under the IEC

Over the last week, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held new draws in the pools of International Experience Canada (IEC). From July 22 to July 28, Canada invited 2,994 young foreigners to apply for an IEC open work permit. As of July 28, 34,876 candidates were registered in the pool and waiting for the invitation. In this round, there were one ITA for Andorra, 217 ITAs for Australia, 19 ITAs for Belgium, 1,382 ITAs for Chile, 227 ITAs for Costa Rica, 5 ITAs for Croatia, 12 ITAs for the Czech Republic, 14 ITAs for Denmark, 2 ITAs for Estonia, 13 ITAs for Finland, 141 ITAs for France, 109 ITAs for Germany, 1 ITA for Greece, 66 ITAs for Ireland, 72 ITAs for Italy, 148 ITAs for Japan, 14 ITAs for Korea, 11 ITAs for Lithuania, 2 ITAs for Luxembourg, 4 ITAs for the Netherlands, 43 ITAs for New Zealand, 5 ITAs for Norway, 14 ITAs for Poland, 19 ITAs for Portugal, 7 ITAs for Slovakia, 2 ITAs for Slovenia, 8 for Spain, 9 ITAs for Sweden, 3 ITAs for Switzerland, 316 ITAs for Taiwan, and 108 ITAs for the United Kingdom. In 2024, Canada issued 100,787 ITAs under the IEC Program.
