BC invited more than 180 skilled immigrants
On July 26, 2022, the Government of British Columbia issued new invitations under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) and invited qualified Skills Immigration candidates. In the general draw, the province invited 147 candidates. The minimum score for candidates invited in this draw was between 78-136 points. In addition, British Columbia invited 22 candidates under the childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 4214). In the Healthcare-targeted draw, BC invited 9 candidates. Additionally, less than 5 invitations have been issued for other priority occupations (NOCs 3114, 3213). In total, the province invited up to 183 candidates. In 2022, British Columbia has already issued 5,100 invitations.

Atlantic provinces to increase trade and investment in the region
On July 26, 2022, the Government of New Brunswick announced that the governments of all four Atlantic provinces, as well as the Federal Government, have revealed an updated Atlantic Trade and Investment Growth Strategy. The provinces have committed to providing five additional years of joint efforts to boost international trade and encourage foreign investment in the Atlantic region. The Federal and provincial authorities have signed an agreement to invest a combined $20 million over the next five years to support activities designed to help small and medium-sized companies.

Transport Canada is working on reducing wait times and delays for air travellers
On July 22, 2022, Transport Canada published a statement regarding the work done on reducing wait times and delays for air travellers. The federal and provincial authorities are working to overcome bottlenecks at airports and airlines of all sizes across the country. On July 21, the transport minister Omar Alghabra met with airport executives in Edmonton to discuss remedies for congestion and delays. The Minister also had similar meetings with officials from the Vancouver, Kamloops and Prince George airports in British Columbia.

ArriveCan causes delays at airports and border crossings
The Government of Canada continues to urge visitors to use the ArriveCan app when they arrive in Canada. According to Mark Webber, president of the Customs and Immigration Union, the excessive reliance on technology and the ArriveCAN app are responsible for delays at Canadian airports. He called on the Government to address issues users may have with the app. Just a few weeks ago, mayors and business executives from communities on Canada’s shared border with the United States called for the Canadian Government to discontinue the app.
