Ottawa introduced new instructions for visa officers to make a reasonable decision on immigration applications
On July 12, 2022, the Government of Canada published the decision of the Supreme Court of Canada (Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) for the lower courts to make a reasonable decision on immigration applications. Civil servants are required by law to make decisions fairly, based on internally coherent reasoning that is both rational and logical. The updated instructions provide visa officials with a defined method for making decisions to make sure that the choice is reasonable and correct.

Foreign nationals will not be able to buy homes in Canada in 2023
Starting on January 2023, Canada will prohibit foreign nationals from purchasing real estate — with important exceptions for permanent residents and temporary visitors, including temporary workers and international students. Bill C-19, the Budget Implementation Act of 2022, received royal assent on June 23 as the federal government works to cool the hot housing market. The temporary ban on foreign investment in Canadian residential real estate is also occurring while Ottawa is promoting the creation of more new homes with the provincial and territorial governments, municipalities, and non-profit organizations.

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot accepted ten times more new permanent residents in 2021
Last year, ten times more new permanent residents moved to small Canadian towns under the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP), which was created as a one-time pilot program than did during its first year in operation. In 2020, 50 permanent residents were admitted to Canada through the RNIP in its inaugural year. Last year, that increased by 1,010 percent, with 555 new permanent residents. Within the first four months of 2022, another 625 permanent immigrants arrived under the RNIP. If the current rate of immigration under the RNIP is maintained throughout the year, Canada will receive 1,875 new permanent residents this year, a 237.8 percent increase over last year’s figures.

Prime Minister has not included Ex-immigration Minister Mendicino in the new task force
On June 25, 2022, Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced the formation of a new task force to address growing delays in government services, such as passports and airport operations. The group of federal ministers is to examine the main flaws in these services and provide suggestions to fix them and reduce the immigration backlog while also improving service quality and speed. Many Canadians find it surprising that previous Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino is not a part of this task force.
