Sudbury considered 24 applications under the RNIP
On January 26, 2023, the City of Greater Sudbury held a new round of invitations in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP). In this round, Sudbury considered 24 candidates. The lowest score of these draws was 250 points, 70 points more than in the previous draw. All applicants had one eligible occupation and a wage over $20 per hour. Last year, in total, 154 applicants were invited. Sudbury has recommended at least 249 individuals under the RNIP since the program’s launch.

Manitoba invited 336 skilled candidates under the MPNP
On January 26, 2023, Manitoba held its second invitation round in the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) this year. In round #166, the MPNP issued 253 LAAs in the Skilled Workers in Manitoba stream. The minimum score for the LAA in this category was 726 points, 8 points fewer than the previous draw. In the Skilled Workers Overseas stream, Manitoba issued 23 LAAs. The lowest score in the SWO category was 713 points, the same as in round #165. In addition, 60 invitations were issued in the International Education Stream. Manitoba has issued LAAs to 336 candidates, including 32 Express Entry candidates for this round. In 2023, MPNP invited 658 candidates, and 59 of them received invitations in the Express Entry.

Manitoba has the highest per capita intake of Ukrainian Refugees
Manitoba proudly stands out among Canadian provinces as it has welcomed more Ukrainian refugees per capita than any other province. Manitoba is committed to offering Ukrainians a wide variety of settlement services that enable successful integration into their new home in Canada. The Government of Manitoba has donated $800,000 in immediate humanitarian aid and nearly 300 soft body-armour vests to support their war efforts. Additionally, they have created a Ukrainian Refugee Task Force – led by the Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization (MEMO) – that is responsible for organizing help around housing placement, job search assistance, healthcare & mental healthcare services, and educational programs for children.

Processing times in Canadian passport offices have returned to pre-pandemic levels
Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Karina Gould has proudly announced that the backlog with passport processing has been nearly cleared, as 98 percent of the application backlog has been processed. Subsequently, turnaround times in all passport offices are back to their normal pre-pandemic levels. According to a press release from Gould’s office, Service Canada has already issued more than two million passports since April 2022 – with an estimated additional one and a half million expected to be released by the end of this fiscal year.
