Alberta invited 250 candidates and updated the inventory
On January 18, 2022, Alberta published the update of the inventory of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP). There were around 450 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications and 775 Expressions of Interest in the Alberta Express Entry pool. In addition, on January 5, 2022, Alberta held a new round in the Alberta Express Entry Stream and issued 250 Notifications of Interest (NOI). The lowest score in this round was 327 points, 24 points less than it was in the previous draw. Last year, AINP invited 6,608 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in the Alberta Express Entry.

British Columbia invited 91 candidates through the BCPNP Tech
On January 18, 2022, British Columbia held a new draw in the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Tech Program (BC PNP Tech). In this draw, the province invited 91 candidates in four categories: Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker, Skills Immigration – International Graduate, Express Entry British Columbia – Skilled Worker, and Express Entry British Columbia – International Graduate. The lowest score in all categories was 80 points, the same as it was in the previous draw. In 2022, in total, British Columbia invited 425 candidates, including 193 applicants under the BCPNP Tech.

Newfoundland and Labrador invited employers to meet labour demand through the new Atlantic Immigration Program
On January 18, 2022, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador invited employers to become designated for the new Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP). Regardless of prior use and familiarity with the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP), all employers are required to become designated to participate in the AIP. Employers are advised to check the eligibility requirements and complete free training offered by the Government of Canada, as well as participate in the information sessions on the AIP for employers and prospective newcomers.

The lowest level of study and work permit approval rates in Islamabad
In 2019 and 2020, Pakistan had one of the lowest immigration approval rates for study and work permit applications. According to the report published by Canada’s visa office in Islamabad, in 2019, there were not any approved work permit applications. For 2020, no data was indicated in the report. For Pakistan, the study permit application rate in 2019 was only 7%. In 2020, surprisingly no study permit applications have been approved despite the higher temporary resident visa (TRV) approval rate, which was 81% and 88% in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
