IRCC extended the public policy for out-of-status construction workers in the GTA
On January 11, 2024, the Government of Canada extended the temporary policy for out-of-status migrants to help employers and address critical labour shortages in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). This extension runs for six months until July 2, 2024. Back in 2019, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) started a pilot program with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) that provided permanent residency status to 500 out-of-status construction workers. This initiative was expanded last year, doubling the number of applicants to 1,000 individuals.

OINP issued over 2,500 invitations under the Skilled Trades Stream
On January 11, 2024, Ontario invited 2,552 candidates under the Skilled Trades Stream of the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP). The CRS score range of the invited candidates was between 350-424 points. Candidates who created their profiles in the Express Entry system between January 11, 2023, and January 11, 2024, were considered by OINP in this draw for 49 NOCs. Candidates who received a notification of interest do not need to contact the program and can apply to the stream. In 2024, the province invited 4,003 candidates under all OINP`s streams.

SINP invited 13 candidates under the Entrepreneur Program
On January 11, 2024, the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) conducted the first invitation round in the Entrepreneur Program 2024 and invited 13 entrepreneurs. This round’s highest Expression of Interest (EOI) score was 160 points. The average score was 135 points. The lowest score was 120. The province will conduct the next EOI pool selections on April 11, 2024, July 11, 2024, and October 10, 2024. Candidates cannot change their business plans or the Business Performance Agreement after the SINP approval. In 2023, Saskatchewan invited 5,573 candidates under all streams, including 209 entrepreneurs.

Manitoba held the first MPNP draw of 2024
On January 11, 2024, Manitoba held the latest invitation round #207 in the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). In the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream, the MPNP invited 166 candidates with a minimum score of 823. Additionally, the MPNP invited 168 candidates under the Close relative in Manitoba selection with a minimum score of 607. In the Skilled Workers Overseas stream, MPNP issued 31 LAAs to candidates invited under the Strategic Recruitment Initiative. The lowest score in the SWO category was 639 points. Finally, 58 invitations were issued in the International Education Stream. In this round, Manitoba has issued LAAs to 423 candidates, including 73 Express Entry candidates. Last year, MPNP invited 16,306 candidates, and 4,456 of them received invitations in the Express Entry.
