Nova Scotia held a new draw in the International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

On January 10, 2022, the Government of Nova Scotia published the results of the new draw in the International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP). In the new which was held on December 22, 2021, the province invited 2 international graduate entrepreneurs, and the lowest score was 53 points, four points fewer than in the previous draw. In 2021, Nova Scotia has already invited 6 international graduate entrepreneurs in three invitation rounds. In total, this year, the province invited more than 97 candidates.

The Government updated the post-graduation work permit eligibility requirements

On January 10, 2022, the Government of Canada introduced a new program delivery update for Post-graduation work permit (PGWP) eligibility requirements. According to the new instructions for a post-graduation work permit, if an applicant took a period of leave that was authorized by their designated learning institution (DLI) at any time during their studies, they must include documentation proving the leave was authorized by the DLI to be eligible for PGWP. If needed, officers may request additional documents to complete their assessment.

Ottawa updated name instructions for Global Case Management System

On January 10, 2022, the Government of Canada updated the naming instructions for Global Case Management System (GCMS). The guideline advises that clients, who have an uncommon name field in the visual inspection zone (VIZ) of their travel document and want to include it on their primary name record in the GCMS, must provide additional supporting documentation, to prove that the uncommon name is part of their legal name. These can be other government-issued documents that clearly demonstrate the applicant’s legal name.

The US advises not to travel to Canada

Due to the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, the US Government advised the Americans not to travel to Canada. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) raised Canada to level four – very high in its travel recommendations, along with other 80 countries with the same level. Currently, the Omicron variant spreads rapidly among the Canadian provinces, increasing the hospitalization numbers to a record high. All Canadian provinces encourage the population to get as many booster shots of the COVID-19 vaccine as possible to nullify the impact of the variant.
