Canada held the first PNP-targeted Express Entry draw of 2023
On February 1, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 893 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in the first PNP-targeted draw since July 2022. In round #239, the cut-off score was 733 points. The tie-breaking rule for this round was December 9, 2022, at 10:49:57 UTC. As of February 1, 2023, there were 239,415 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool, 598 fewer compared to the previous update. In 2023, Canada has already issued 11,893 invitations through 3 Express Entry draws.

Alberta held two invitation rounds in January
On January 31, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) published a new update regarding the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). As of January 31, 2023, there were around 1,642 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications and 342 Expressions of Interest in the Alberta Express Entry pool. In addition, on January 19 and January 23, 2023, Alberta held new rounds in the Alberta Express Entry Stream and issued 46 and 154 Notifications of Interest (NOI), respectively. In 2022, the province invited 2,449 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in the Alberta Express Entry. This year, Alberta invited 200 Express Entry candidates under the AAIP.

IRCC will start accepting the Pearson Test of English test results
On February 1, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that the Government of Canada designated Pearson Canada Inc. as a language-testing organization. By late 2023, it is expected that IRCC will begin accepting scores from the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Essential English test administered by Pearson Canada Inc. as a way to fulfill language requirement criteria. This new policy aims to provide an alternative means of demonstrating language proficiency for those who may not have had access to other established language tests.
