Canadians celebrate the Black History Month

Every February, Canadians come together to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of Black people in Canada through various events and festivities that take place throughout Black History Month. The 2023 theme for Black History Month is “Ours to tell”. This concept invites Canadians to enter an inclusive conversation and further understand the experiences, accomplishments, trials, and triumphs of Canadian Black communities throughout history. The Canadian Government invites all Canadians to uncover the stories behind the nation’s communities and discover how they have helped shape Canada into the country we know today.

Canada’s low fertility rate makes the government invite more immigrants

Canada’s fertility rate has been decreasing since 2009 and hit an all-time low of 1.4 children per woman in 2020 – far below the global population replacement level of 2.1 births per woman. The number of childbirths decreased by 3.6% from 2019 to 2020, making it the largest annual drop ever seen in 25 years. This birth rate decline demands attention if Canada hopes to keep up with its rapidly growing population worldwide. The government of Canada has responded to this decline in birth rates by encouraging increased immigration. The Canadian immigration program is designed to bring new skilled labour and talent into the country, contributing to its long-term economic and population growth.
