Alberta updated the AAIP inventory

On December 5, 2022, Alberta published the update considering the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) inventory. According to the new update, there were around 955 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications and 250 Expressions of Interest in the Alberta Express Entry pool. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) allocated a quota of 6,250 nominations to Alberta in 2021 under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), and the AAIP issued all 6,250 certificates last year. For 2022, IRCC provided 6,500 nominations for the AAIP. This year, Alberta nominated 6,325 applicants and invited 2,320 candidates.

British Columbia invited up to 193 high-skilled candidates under the BCPNP

On December 6, 2022, the Government of British Columbia issued new invitations under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) and invited qualified Skills Immigration candidates and Tech workers. In the Tech-targeted draw, BC issued 144 invitations with a minimum score of 95 points. The province invited 32 candidates in the Childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 42202). A further 12 invitations were issued to skilled workers, international graduates and entry-level and semi-skilled workers scoring at least 60 points in a draw targeting Healthcare workers. Additionally, fewer than 5 invitations have been issued for other priority occupations (NOCs 31103, 32104). In total, the province invited up to 193 candidates. In 2022, British Columbia already issued 8,618 invitations in total, and 7,466 of them were issued for BCPNP Tech candidates.

Newfoundland and Labrador welcomed more Ukrainian nationals

On December 6, 2022, Immigration, Population Growth and Skills of Newfoundland and Labrador announced the arrival of the fourth airlift arriving with 187 Ukrainian nationals. Almost 700 Ukrainians have come to Newfoundland and Labrador on Provincial Government arranged flights since March 2022. Over 1,500 Ukrainian nationals have settled into 36 different communities across the province. Almost all Ukrainians who have recently arrived in Canada have been granted the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) visa, which allows them to remain in the country and work legally for three years.

Canada had around 20,000 more jobs in November

On December 2, 2022, Statistics Canada published a new Labour Force Survey for November 2022. According to the update, Canadian employment was up by 19,666 in November. The employment rate for females aged 25-54 hit an all-time high of 81.6% but declined for young men aged 15 to 24. It was mainly unchanged for all other demographic groups. Employment increased in finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing, manufacturing, information, culture, and recreation, while construction, wholesale and retail trade decreased.
