Immigration Minister marked the International Migrants Day
On December 18, 2021, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), has marked International Migrants Day and issued a statement with Melanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Harjit Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister Responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada. They have also mentioned Canada’s leading role in international migration as well as the successful social media campaign ‘It Takes a Community’ that shares positive stories about the incredible contributions of migrants.

Saskatchewan launched International Healthcare Worker EOI Pool
The Government of Saskatchewan launched a new International Healthcare Workers expression of interest (IHW EOI) pool under the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP), targeting 21 healthcare occupations. After submitting an online form indicating they are interested in working in a selected healthcare occupation in Saskatchewan, candidates will receive a job offer that enables them to apply to the SINP’s International Skilled Worker: Employment Offer or the Hard-to-Fill Skills Pilot. This new pool will help connect healthcare workers with job opportunities being offered by Saskatchewan healthcare sector employers.

Alberta introduced the last update for AINP 2021
On December 20, 2021, Alberta updated the information in the inventory of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), also announcing that there will be no further certificates issued until January 2022. As of December 20, 2021, the province issued 6,250 nomination certificates to Alberta, reaching the caps for 2021. Currently, there are around 475 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications and 775 Expressions of Interest in the Alberta Express Entry pool. The province will continue to assess applications in the queue. In 2021, AINP already invited 6,458 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in the Alberta Express Entry.

Saskatchewan invited 27 international graduates under the SINP
On December 20, 2021, Saskatchewan updated the number of spots remaining through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) for international graduates in the framework of the temporary immigration policy. The provincial government has allocated 1,000 spots for direct submission of a nomination application for those who resided in the province on September 1, 2020, and has completed an academic program in the province. The province has accepted 27 applications, and 295 spots remain available. SINP updates this data every Monday. Since the launch of the program, SINP has accepted 705 applications from international graduates. Moreover, the province announced that only those students whose employers submitted the Job Approval Form for this position before December 31, 2021, will be accepted under the temporary measure after December 31.

Quebec invited 326 candidates in the new Arrima draw
On December 20, 2021, the Quebec Ministry of Immigration (MIFI) published the results of the 26th invitation round in Quebec’s online system Arrima. On December 9, 2021, MIFI invited 326 candidates to apply for a Quebec Selection Certificate under the Quebec Skilled Worker Program. Candidates invited in this round either had a validated offer of employment in the province and had a minimum score of 633. In 2021, MIFI already issued 3,582 invitations. Last year, Quebec invited 628 persons through the Arrima. Since the launch of Arrima in July 2019, the government of Quebec invited 6,272 foreign nationals in 25 draws to apply for immigration to Quebec.
