Canada keeps restricting travel measures

Following the outbreak of the Omicron strain, the Government of Canada introduces additional measures. Effective immediately, all vaccinated travellers arriving in Canada by plane will have to take a PCR test upon arrival and remain in quarantine until the test results arrive. This rule applies to those arriving from all countries except the USA. As for unvaccinated travellers who are allowed to enter Canada, they will also need to take a PCR test upon arrival and on the eight after, as well as undergo a 14-day self-isolation.

Alberta published a new AINP nomination statistics

The government of Alberta released a new update on the statistics of the nominations under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP). In 2020, Alberta nominated only 4,000 candidates out of 6,250 nominations allocated by the federal government. In 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) allowed Alberta to nominate 6,250 and as of November 30, 2021, the AINP has issued 5,871 nomination certificates. It seems that this year, the province will use the whole quota. As of today, AINP received 375 applications in the Alberta Opportunity Stream that are waiting for the eligibility assessment and also reviews 800 Expressions of Interest (EOI) in the Alberta Express Entry Stream.

Statistics Canada: The national economy is growing

Statistics Canada reported that against the background of easing coronavirus restrictions, GDP in the third quarter of 2021 amounted to 5.4%. This figure indicates that the economy was growing in the 3rd quarter, while in the 2nd quarter of 2021 it was declining. During this period, Canadians spent a lot and the savings rate fell from 14% to 11%. When some of the restrictive measures were lifted, residents of the country rushed to catch up with the pandemic: that is, visit bars, restaurants and other public places. It has been estimated that most of the money spent was in cafes, restaurants and hotels. Statistics Canada chief economist Avery Schoenfeld warned in a statement that the bright prospects for economic recovery could be darkened by the fact that the recently identified Omicron coronavirus strain will soon make its negative adjustments to the country’s economic recovery.
