Visa processing for Chinese applicants delayed by 280 days

The IRCC has promised to speed up the approval of visas. However, according to the timetable issued by the IRCC, it takes 280 days to obtain a Canadian visitor visa in China, which is one month slower than a week ago. A while ago, the IRCC announced that there will be significant delays in various immigration application services under the pandemic. At present, the department is giving priority to processing applications for those who are not hindered by travel restrictions. According to journalists from the Chinese Canadian outlet Van People, many applicants will have to wait a long time to be reviewed.

ICCRC targets fake immigration consultants

The Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) is targeting fake immigration consultants located in Canada and across the globe. Thousands of Indians migrate to Canada every year. Potential immigrants fall prey to immigration fraud. As large numbers of Indians wish to migrate to Canada, the number of incidents of them falling prey to immigration scams or being duped by fake immigration agents is very high. ICCRC oversees immigration consultants and international student advisors. Those who offer immigration services abroad still remain subject to Canadian law even if they reside outside of Canada. About 44 immigration consultants based in India have recently been listed by the ICCRC as fake immigration consultants who are not registered and authorized to provide citizenship and immigration services in Canada. Meanwhile, disciplinary action was taken against a few ICCRC members who engaged in fraudulent activities.

1,100 Afghan refugees have entered Canada

Recently, Justin Trudeau announced at a press conference that Canada will help resettle at least 20,000 Afghan refugees. Canada has already processed 3,000 applications and confirmed that there are 6,000 eligible Afghan residents that can come to Canada. Trudeau also promised to continue supporting Afghan refugees in the future. According to Canadian Immigration Minister Mendicino, 1,100 Afghan refugees have landed in Canada successfully. In addition, there are still 12 Canadian aircraft flying from Afghanistan to Canada. At the same time, Canada failed to evacuate Afghan families. On August 26, 2021, at a briefing, acting Chief of the Defence Staff, Wayne Eyre, said that Canada had evacuated to safety 3,700 Canadians, permanent residents, vulnerable Afghans, and citizens of other countries. However, according to Daniel Mills, assistant deputy minister in Canada’s immigration ministry, the Government had received 8,000 applications from Afghan residents to come to Canada. At the same briefing, he also said that no one knows how many of those 8,000 had escaped to neighbouring countries or might have been airlifted out by allies.
