OINP held a new round in the Human Capital Priorities Stream

On August 26, 2020, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) held a new round of invitations in the Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream. In this draw, OINP distributed 703 targeted Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to candidates who possess one year or more of foreign work experience in one of the in-demand occupations. The score range of those candidates was 466-475 points. All invited candidates work in one of the nine following occupations:

NOC 0111 – Financial managers
NOC 0124 – Advertising, marketing and public relations managers
NOC 0601 – Corporate sales managers
NOC 1111 – Financial auditors and accountants
NOC 1114 – Other financial officers
NOC 1122 – Professional occupations in business management consulting
NOC 3012 – Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses
NOC 3124 – Allied primary health practitioners
NOC 3132 – Dietitians and nutritionists

In total, Ontario invited 10,415 candidates in the OINP in 2020. Among them, 4,833 have been invited under the Human Capital Priorities Stream.

Saskatchewan invited 570 Occupations In-Demand candidates

On August 26, 2020, Saskatchewan conducted a new round of invitations in the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). In this round, SINP issued invitations to apply (ITA) for the provincial nomination only to candidates in the Occupations In-Demand category. In total, SINP invited 570 candidates. The lowest score dropped by one point compared to the previous draw and was 68 points. All invited candidates had Educational Credential Assessments. In this draw, Saskatchewan invited candidates in 50 different NOCs. Additionally, SINP noted that candidates who scored 68 points in this round had connections to Saskatchewan or had 10 years of work experience and a language level of CLB 8 or higher. In total, Saskatchewan issued 3,941 ITAs in 2020.

Sudbury has invited 12 candidates in the RNIP

On August 22, 2020, the City of Greater Sudbury conducted the fourth invitation round in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP). In this draw, Sudbury invited 12 candidates and the lowest score to receive the invitation was 225 points, 10 points less than in the May 22 draw. The tie-breaking rule was July 10, 2020. All invited candidates can now submit an application for a community recommendation. In total, Sudbury invited 30 candidates since the launch of the program.

IRCC introduced further temporary measures for PGWP eligibility

On August 26, 2020, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced three new measures on Post-Graduate Work Permit eligibility for international students. Those foreign students whose programs starts from May to September 2020 with the duration of 8-12 month can complete their study online without losing eligibility for PGWP. Students whose program starts from May to September 2020 and will study remotely by April 30, 2021, and who studied in an eligible program before are allowed to combine the length of their study for PGWP eligibility but not more than 50% of the total studies online. Study permit applications must be submitted before the program start (including programs that begin in Winter 2021 term) to be eligible for those temporary measures.

IRCC extended Ministerial Instructions for temporary residence processing

On August 26, 2020, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) published an update that Minister of Immigration has extended the current COVID-19 instructions for TRV applications until September 30, 2020. These ministerial instructions regulate travel restriction measures, non-optional and non-discretionary travels, processing of the temporary resident visas (TRV), electronic travel authorizations (eTA), study permits, work permits, employer compliance inspections procedures, withdrawal of temporary residence applications, policy towards temporary residents who are unable to depart Canada and public policy exempting certain out-of-status foreign nationals from immigration requirements.
